The Rebel Black Dot Song o' the Day before Yesterday

Montag, 12. November
Fountains of Wayne, "Cemetery Guns" from Sky Full of Holes (The Last Angry Mourner)

Commentary: This past Monday, on Veterans' Day (Observed), we buried a widow, though not a war widow as her soldier—my grandfather—had come home safe & sound from the Second World War. There was no twenty-one gun salute for my grandmother, the last of my grandparents, just the sound of uncomprehending great-grandchildren playing amidst the tombstones.
"Cemetery guns go Bang! Bang! Bang!
Shooting the whole sky full of holes,
Twenty-one times in a row
For the blue war widow
In the gray raincoat
On the green grass down below…"
