The Rebel Black Dot Song o' the Day

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, "Simmer Down" from the Ska-Core, the Devil, and More E.P. (Rude Boy Mike Papa Whiskey)

Skammentary: "Simmer Down" was the first song released by The Wailers, accompanied by The Skatalites, in 1963; the Bosstones' cover was released in 1993. The Wailers would later become Bob Marley & the Wailers, pioneers of reggae as a genre distinct from ska. At the time, "Simmer Down" was a distinct departure from the Bosstones' ska-punk sound, which was heavily influcned by hardcore punk & even heavy metal. In the nearly three decades since, their sound has changed considerably, including significant use of electric organ.
