Operation AXIOM: Destination Moon—The 51st Anniversary of Apollo 10, Part II
22 May 1969: Stafford & Cernan piloted the Lunar Module Snoopy to within 47,000 feet of the lunar surface, practicing all aspects of a lunar landing except the final powered descent & surveying Apollo 11's proposed Sea of Tranquility landing site; a roll during ascent almost ended the flight in disaster; aboard the Command Module Charlie Brown, Young became the first man to orbit the Moon solo.
