Alan Bartlett Shepard Junior (18 November 1923-21 July 1998), Rear Admiral, United States Navy–The second man & first American in space aboard Mercury-Redstone 3 (Freedom 7, 1961), he was grounded with Ménière's disease & he served as Chief Astronaut (1963-1969, 1971-1974), then was CDR of Apollo 14 (Kitty Hawk & Antares, 1971); the fifth & oldest Moonwalker, & the first to golf.
