The Golden Gate Bridge—A suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate from San Francisco to Marin County, California, construction began on 5 January 1933 & the bridge opened on 27 May 1937; the world's longest & tallest suspension bridge in its day, initial design work had begun in 1917; the bridge deck was replaced 1982-1986 due to salt corrosion & today seismic retrofitting is ongoing.
