Operation AXIOM: The Space Age—The 40th Anniversary of the Space Shuttle Discovery
16 October 1983: The Space Shuttle Discovery OV-103 rolled out of the North American Rockwell factory in Palmdale, California; she was the lightest Orbiter yet, due to lessons learned from building the others; she flew thirty-nine missions, the most of any Orbiter, including the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope & the "Return to Flight" missions after both the Challenger & Columbia disasters.Commentary: The Discovery has been on display at the National Air & Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport since the retirement of the Space Shuttle fleet in 2011.
Bonus! Space Age Song o' the Day: The Space Shuttle Discovery
