Fifty-six years ago to the day, 15 November 1967, Major Michael James Adams, U.S.A.F., died when his X-15 broke up midflight; he was selected as part of the Air Force's Manned Orbiting Laboratory (M.O.L.) Group 1 in November 1965; a veteran of six successful X-15 flights, he was the only fatality of the X-15 program.
