Commentary: We're back!
"Whispers" is an unsettling episode, because one's natural instinct is to side with Chief O'Brien, who is actually the villain of the piece. It's fascinating to think about "Whispers" in parallel with season five's "The Assignment," in which instead of Miles O'Brien having been replaced by a "replicant," Keiko O'Brien is possessed by a Pah-wraith. The most obvious distinction is that the replicant thinks it is Chief O'Brien & cannot understand Keiko's aloofness, whereas the Pah-wraith is open—though only to Miles—about having possessed Keiko.
