The S.S. George Washington, a German ocean liner of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line interned by the United States in 1914 then seized by the U.S. Government upon the declaration of war in 1917; a troopship for "doughboys" in 1918-1919, she twice ferried President Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference; her newspaper, The Hatchet, joked of "The largest circulation on the Atlantic Ocean."
