3 September 1918: The "Red Terror" was officially announced in the newspaper Izvestia, ostensibly in response to S.R. assassination attempts against Lenin, though he had already ordered the Soviets "to induce mass terror" prior to this; the Cheka tortured & summarily executed clergy, striking workers, peasants, hostages, prisoners, prisoners of war—anyone & everyone—perhaps over a million souls.
Lest we forget.
Commentary: It is common for contemporary leftists & socialists to assert that Soviet Communism was not inherently violent under Lenin & Trotsky, & was a force for good until twisted into a non-Communist cult of personality by Stalin. The Red Terror & War Communism refute this non-factual assertion utterly.
