Operation AXIOM: After the World War—The Black Sox Scandal, Part I
1-9 October 1919: The Cincinnati Reds of the National League won the best-of-nine World Series over the Chicago White Sox of the American League, five games to three; eight White Sox players, later dubbed the "Black Sox," accepted bribes from a consortium of gamblers led by mobster Arnold "the Brain" Rothstein to fix the result; rumors of a fix were circulating even before the first pitch.
Lest we forget.
