Operation AXIOM: After the World War—The Polish-Soviet War, Part III
12-25 August 1920: The Battle of Warsaw—Józef Piłsudski lured the Red Army into a trap so daring that when Soviet intelligence intercepted the plan they dismissed it as a deception; the Poles dug in & made a desperate stand at the Vistula River while a surprise counterattack from the south smashed through the soft underbelly of the Soviet front, throwing Leon Trotsky & the Red Army into full retreat.
Commentary: The nickname the "Miracle at the Vistula" was coined as an insult by an enemy of Piłsudski's, but was later embraced unironically.
Lest we forget.
