Operation AXIOM: Destination Moon—The 60th Anniversary of Kennedy's Speech at Rice
12 September 1962: Address at Rice University on the Nation's Space Effort—President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech in Rice Stadium to drum up public support for the Apollo program; the speech, largely written by Ted Sorenson, echoed the 1960 New Frontier speech & 1961 inaugural address, & namechecked the Mariner 2 probe, then in transit for its encounter with Venus.
