Edward Higgins White II (14 November 1930-27 January 1967), Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Air Force—He flew Gemini IV (1965), becoming the first American & second human to conduct an extravehicular activity (E.V.A., or "spacewalk"); he was assigned to Apollo 1 (1967) & died in the launch rehersal disaster; a Michigan Wolverine, he almost qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team as a hurdler in 1952.Bonus!
