1 December 1974: In the morning, Trans World Airlines Flight 514, a Boeing 727, crashed into Mount Weather, Virginia, claiming all ninety-two souls aboard (seven crew, eighty-five passengers); in the evening, Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 6231, also a Boeing 727, crashed in Haverstraw, New York, claiming all three souls aboard (crew); the disasters were caused by pilot & Air Traffic Control error.
