Ritchie Valens, "La Bamba" from The Best of Ritchie Valens (Mike Papa Whiskey)
Operation AXIOM
Sixty-two years ago to the day, 3 February 1959, early rock & roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, & pilot Roger Peterson died in the crash of their Beechcraft Bonanza light aeroplane outside of Clear Lake, Iowa. The tragedy was immortalized as "The Day the Music Died" in Don McLean's 1971 song "American Pie." Much like the early death of actor James Dean, one can debate how well Richardson, Valens, & Holly would be remembered today if not for their untimely deaths, but that's beyond the scope of our purpose here.
The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, & Buddy Holly died alingside their pilot, Roger Peterson, sixty-two years ago today—the Day the Music Died.
