4 November 1922: The Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb—A British expedition lead by Howard Carter & his patron, George Herbert, the Earl of Carnarvon, discovered KV62 in the Valley of the Kings; they first entered the tomb on 26 November & excavations continued until 1932; meanwhile, the "Tutmania" craze seized the Western cultural imagination, & sightseers flocked the the tomb.
