Operation AXIOM: The Space Race—The 50th Anniversary of Soyuz 12
27-29 September 1973: Soyuz 12 lifted off from the Kazakh S.S.R.'s Baikonur Cosmodrome, with CDR Vasily Lazarev & Flight Engineer Oleg Makarov aboard a Soyuz 7K-T capsule atop a Soyuz rocket; callsign Ural ("Ural"); this was the first flight of a Soyuz capsule redesigned for a duo wearing pressure suits, instead of a trio wearing flight suits; Lazarev & Makarov landed in the Kazakh S.S.R.
Commentary: This was the first crewed Soviet spaceflight since the Soyuz 11 tragedy on 29 June 1971. Complicating the image search for this episode, Lazarev & Makarov would fly together again in 1975, aboard Soyuz 18a.

Bonus! Space Race Song o' the Day: Soyuz 12
