The Explorers' Club, № DXIII

The first broadcast episode of Star Trek—"The Man Trap," written by George Clayton Johnson & directed by Marc Daniels—debuted on the N.B.C. television network on Thursday, 8 September 1966. Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry (1921-1991), would run for three seasons, 1966-1969.

"Space—the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before!"

Commentary: I'd be remiss if I did not mention that director Marc Daniels (1912-1989) was an alumnus of the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
