Ben Folds, "Effington" from Way to Normal (T.L.A.M.)

Commentary: The town in Illinois that inspired "Effington" is actually named Effingham. Intones Mr. Folds at the beginning of "Effington":

"If there's a God, He is laughing at us, & our football team…"

Probably inadvertently so, but he's not all that wide of the mark. Quoth the Scriptures, Psalm 2, verse 4:

"The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord derides them…"
