3 March 1969: Apollo 9 lifted off from Florida's Kennedy Space Center, carrying Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, & Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart aboard the Command & Service Module Gumdrop atop a Saturn V rocket also carrying the Lunar Module Spider; Gumdrop & Spider were the first N.A.S.A. spacecraft with call signs since Gemini 3's Molly Brown.
