12 April 1961: Vostok 1 lifted off from the Kazakh S.S.R.'s Baikonur Cosmodrome, carrying Pilot Yuri Gagarin aboard a Vostok 3KA capsule atop a Vostok-K rocket; he became the first man in space during the orbital flight; the flight was entirely automatic, with Gargarin serving as a passenger; he ejected from the Vostok capsule after reentry & parachuted to earth ten minutes after the capsule.Bonus!
