17 May 1966: Command Pilot Tom Stafford & Pilot Gene Cernan aimed to achieve rendezvous & docking with an Agena Target Vehicle; the Atlas-Agena rocket lifted off from Cape Kennedy Air Force Station, but failed to reach orbit; N.A.S.A. had a contingency plan after the similar Gemini VI Agena failure: the Augmented Target Docking Adapter, which launched successfully atop an Atlas on 1 June.Bonus!
