19-28 May 1971: The identical Mars 2 (19 May) & Mars 3 (28 May) probes lifted off from the Kazakh S.S.R.'s Baikonur Cosmodrome atop Proton-K rockets; the probes each consisted of an orbiter & a lander, both landers also carrying small Prop-M rovers; each lander was equiped with two television cameras, a mass spectrameter, other sensors, & a mechanical scoop to sample the Martian surface.Bonus!
