The Victors: Team 144 (15-0, B1G 9-0)
The University of Michigan Marching Band, "The Victors (Trio)" from Forever Valiant (Mike Papa Wolverine)
Commentary: My pal Kilo Juliett, a Michigan alumnus, already wants to speculate about next season, about Team 145. He's concerned about the valiant Wolverines' 2024 schedule—a murderers' row, in his estimation—about the number of players leaving early for the No Fun League, about Harbaugh interviewing for a No Fun League head coaching job. In this speculation, he is overlooking one of the invaluable lessons that made Team 144 National Champions, wisdom I first articulated by Ronnie Bell (who played at Michigan 2018-2022): Be where your feet are. Learn from the past, plan for the future, but it's all for naught if you aren't present to whatever you're doing, wherever you are. This is the octave day of the College Football Playoff National Championship, of the valiant Wolverines' 34-13 victory. Team 145 will come, heaven permitting. For the nonce, let us revel in Team 144's triumph, in Michigan's return to the mountaintop for the first time since 1997 (my freshman year of college), in the vindication of all the frustration (late Carr, early Harbaugh) & despair (Rodriguez, Hoke) of those years. Be where your feet are. Hail to the Victors!
Go Blue!
