Fred Wallace Haise Junior (born 14 November 1933)—He flew as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 13 (Odyssey & Aquarius, 1970); he was one of the first two members of Astronaut Group 5 to fly; he flew the Space Shuttle Enterprise during the Approach & Landing Tests, the only A.L.T. pilot not to fly an orbital Space Shuttle mission; he finally published his autobiography, Never Panic Early, in 2022.Commentary: As of this publication, Captain Haise is still alive, aged ninety-two.
After his active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps (1954-1957), Haise was a reservist in the Oklahoma & Ohio Air National Guards (1957-1963), including ten months' active duty in the U.S. Air Force. He was a civilian research pilot for N.A.S.A. at the time of his astronaut selection.
In the feature film Apollo 13 (1995), Haise was played by the late Bill Paxton.
