23 October 1926: Leon Trotsky & Lev Kamenev were ousted from the Politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union; during Vladimir Lenin's illness (1922-1923), Kamenev had formed a troika with Iosif Stalin & Grigory Zinoviev against Trotsky, then head of the Soviet armed forces; the troika broke up in April 1925 & Kamenev & Zinoviev formed the United Opposition with Trotsky in May 1926.
