Operation AXIOM
Sixty-six years ago to the day, on 6 June 1944, American, British, and Canadian amphibious forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, breaching the Atlantic Wall and beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi tyranny.

The Explorers Club
No. CLXI - "Lucky" Lucan on the lam: the disappearance (since 1974) and death (in absentia, since 1999) of Richard Bingham, The Right Honourable The Earl of Lucan, the murderer of Mrs. Sandra Rivett.

Proud Europa
A peaceful resolution to a territorial dispute between Croatia & Slovenia? Access to the Adriaticlink. Whatever happened to the good old days when the Balkans would go up like a powder keg over the slightest provocation? (Note: I'm inappropriately making light of the horrible slaughter of the 1910s, not the horrible slaughter of the 1990s. I'm not a monster. *wink* Or maybe I am a monster, because I'm playing pretty fast and loose with geography; Slovenia is not usually considered part of the Balkans.) But, to the most scoff-worthy part of the B.B.C. article: Does anyone really believe that this peaceful settlement of the Bay of Piran question will in any way help diffuse the still explosive crisis between Serbia & Kosovo? The Serbs are monsters, and to combat that monstrosity the Kosovars allied themselves with monsters. Their dispute is vastly different in character from the Slovenian-Croatian contest over the Bay of Piran.

Paul Simon, "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" via iTunes (T.L.A.M.)

Commentary: I loved "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" when I was a kid, adoring the rhyming chorus without comprehending what the song was really about, which casts on ironical light on these lyrics:

"Furthermore, I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued."
