25 December 1914: The Cuxhaven Raid—a new kind of warfare as ship-borne floatplanes of the British Royal Naval Air Service bombed, amongst other targets, the German Imperial Navy's (Kaiserliche Marine) Zeppelin sheds at Nordholz.
Commentary: The Cuxhaven Raid is known in Germany as the Weihnachtsangriff, the "Christmas Raid," proof that the fondly remembered "Christmas truce" was far from universal.
