11 October 1968: Apollo 7 lifted off from Florida's Cape Kennedy Air Force Station, carrying CDR Wally Schirra, Command Module Pilot Donn Eisele, & Lunar Module Pilot Walt Cunningham aboard a Command & Service Module atop a Saturn IB rocket; this first flight after the Apollo 1 tragedy lifted off exactly 700 days since the launch of the previous American manned spaceflight, Gemini XII, in 1966.
