The Rebel Black Dot Song o' the Day

Avril Lavigne, "Sk8er Boi" from Let Go (Mike Papa Whiskey)

Commentary: Yesterday, while picking up lunch, I heard the tail end of Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" & the front end of No Doubt's "Sunday Morning." The admixture of those two songs produced in my brain a desire to rock out—turn-of-the-millennium-style—to "Sk8er Boi."

Of course, back then, I thought of myself as the eponymous sk8er boi, unfairly dismissed & overlooked by the girls I desired. In the years since, I've learned that I'm much more like the girl who turns her nose up at the sk8er boi, because I unfairly dismissed & overlooked many girls who wanted me, girls who virtually threw themselves at me, eschewing them in my self-defeating obsession with unavailable girls. Self-knowledge is a heck of a thing.
