Walter Marty Schirra Junior (12 March 1923-3 May 2007), Captain, U.S. Navy—He flew Mercury-Atlas 8 (Sigma 7, 1962), Gemini VI-A (1965), & Apollo 7 (1968), the only astronaut to fly missions during all three programs; after retiring from N.A.S.A. & the Navy, he co-anchored television coverage of the Apollo Moon landings with Walter Cronkite; namesake of the U.S.N.S. Wally Schirra (T-AKE-8).
