Leroy Gordon Cooper Junior (6 March 1927-4 October 2004), Colonel, U.S. Air Force—He flew Mercury-Atlas 9 (Faith 7, 1963) & Gemini V (1965), the first man to fly two orbital flights; he tried to race in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1968, but was stopped by N.A.S.A. management; he was backup CDR for Apollo 10 (1969), then was replaced by Alan Shepard for Apollo 13 (eventually Apollo 14).Bonus!
