Alien Ant Farm, "Smooth Criminal" via iTunes (T.L.A.M.)

Commentary: On Saturday night I was with Red Patton, Super Mario, & others at a pub in Saginaw called Retro Rocks, which played pop music hits from the Nineteen Eighties, the Nineteen Nineties, & the Two Thousands ('tis a shame "the Aughts" never caught on as it ought to have done). Of the many fondly remembered or still despised songs played, the two that stuck out most were the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" (which was played at least twice) & one-hit wonders Alien Ant Farm's one hit, a brilliant cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." "Wannabe" is still vapid & annoying after all these years, while "Smooth Criminal" is still delightful, very much the model of what a cover should me. (Because if you're not going to do anything different, why are you even covering the song? Just encourage your audience to listen to the original.) Yes, "nu metal" was an unfortunate phenomenon in popular music, but Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal" still works.
