Tuesday, 27 December was the Feast of Saint John, Apostle & Evangelist (first century): Apostle-link ūnus, Apostle-link duo, Wikipedia-link Apostle, Wikipedia-link Evangelist, & Wikipedia-link Revelator.

Commentary: Wayback Machine. Quoth the Holy Redeemer bulletin:
His is the name traditionally given to the author of the Gospel of John. The Apostle John was an historical figure, one of the "pillars" of the Jerusalem church after Jesus's death. He was one of the original twelve apostles & is thought to be the only one to have lived into old age & not be killed for his faith.
'Twas also the feast of Saint Maximus of Alexandria, Bishop (died 282): Saint-link & Wikipedia-link.

'Twas also the feast of Saints Theodorus of Apamea, Martyr, & Theophanes of Nicaea, Bishop (circa 775-842 & circa 778-845), the Grapti ("written upon," i.e. branded), martyred in the reign of the emperor Theophilos: Martyr-link & Wikipedia-link Bros., Saint-link & Wikipedia-link Bishop.

Commentary: As tragic as martyrdom is under all circumstances, it is especially poignant when it comes at the hands of fellow, heretical Christians in the murderous service of their heresy.
