3 March 1918: The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed between the Central Powers & Soviet Russia, ending the war on the Eastern Front; the Soviets renounced all territorial claims over Finland, the Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic states, & parts of the Caucuses; the Germans began transferring troops to the Western Front, but also tied down a million men garrisoning their new eastern empire.
