John Herschel Glenn Junior (18 July 1921-8 December 2016), Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps—The third American in space but the first to orbit the Earth during Mercury-Atlas 6 (Friendship 7, 1962); four-term Senator from Ohio (1975-1999) & presidential candidate (1984); he served as Payload Specialist 2 aboard S.T.S.-95 (Discovery, 1998), the oldest man ever to orbit; last of the Mercury Seven to die.
