5-7 October 1985: Mission details remain formally classified; Bobko (U.S.A.F.), Grabe (U.S.A.F.), Hilmers (U.S.M.C.), Stewart (U.S.A.), & Pailes (U.S.A.F.) were all active-duty military; Pailes served in the Manned Spaceflight Engineer Program, instead of being a N.A.S.A. mission specialist (as was P.S.1 Gary Payton [U.S.A.F.], S.T.S.-51-C); after 64 orbits, the Atlantis landed at California's Edwards.Commentary: Commander Bobko became the first astronaut to fly on three different Orbiters, including the first flights of both the Challenger (S.T.S.-6, 1983) & the Atlantis (S.T.S.-51-J).
