In Western Christianity the annual celebration is now held on 2 November & is associated with All Saints' Day (1 November) & its vigil, Hallowe'en (31 October).Quoth the Holy Family bulletin:
On this feast, we commemorate all of the faithful departed, those who have died in Christ. This day & the whole month of November is dedicated to prayer for those in Purgatory; that they may be relieved of their suffering & enter (into) eternal happiness in heaven. During this time, we receive special graces when we pray for our deceased loved ones or visit a cemetery.Scripture of the Day (Monday)
