Skammentary: A 1990s ska cover of a 1980s pop song? How unexpected!
To be clear, our "Little Tokyo" subset concluded yesterday. Skankin' Pickle were an American band; prominent Skankin' Pickle member Mike Park is of Korean heritage, not Japanese; & song originators The Vapors have confirmed that "Turning Japanese" is a fairly nonsense phrase, about really neither Japan nor Japanse culture. Obviously, though, picking songs from Japanese ska bands naturally brought "Turning Japanese" to mind, & it's good to have Skankin' Pickle back with us as a part of SKApril for the first time since 2016, the sixth SKApril.
