Commentary: "Profit and Loss" gives us our first look at the Cardassian resistance movement, the opposition to military rule that would overthrow the Central Command at the beginning of season four. (Not coincidental, methinks, that the overthrow of the Central Command followed closely on the heels of the severe weakening of the Obsidian Order espionage service & secret police near the end of season three.) Neither Rekelen nor Hogue, supposed leaders of the resistance, stand out as particularly compelling characters, but it would have been nice to see them again later in the series, or better yet, Quark's paramour Natima Lang. Continuity!
"Profit and Loss" also features real gallantry from Quark, deepening our favorite bartender beyond the one-dimensional schemer & money grubber some try to limit him to being.
