1 April 1924: The trial of the Beer Hall Putchists concluded, with Adolf Hitler & Rudolf Heß, et al., sentenced to five years of Festungshaft ("fortress confinement") for treason; General Ludendorff was acquitted; despite their imprisonment, the trial was a propaganda triumph for the Nazis; Hitler was not deported to his native Austria due to the sympathetic rulings of the presiding judge, Georg Neithardt.Lest we forget.
