Commentary: "The Collaborator" gives us a study on the ongoing aftermath of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, of Vedek Bariel's (Kira's paramour) loyalty to the memory of Kai Opaka & Vedek's Winn's ruthless ambition to become the next kai (the Bajoran pope). In the end, Bariel is able to protect Opaka's legacy, but only at the cost of giving up his all-but-certain election as kai. Winn is elected kai, becoming one of D.S.9's great recurring villains.
23 May was not yet Narwhal Day in 1994. The first Narwhal Day would not be celebrated until 2001.
