Sunday, 8 May was the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord: Wikipedia-link.
Commentary: Quoth the Holy Redeemer bulletin:
"So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, & sat down at the right hand of God."In those dioceses wherein the observance of the Ascension of the Lord was not transferred from Thursday, 5 May (in those dioceses, a holy day of obligation), to the following Sunday, 8 May was the Seventh Sunday of Easter: Paschal-link & Wikipedia-link.
Commentary: My personal preference would be for Ascension to be observed on Thursday, but I happily bow to the authority of the Bishop of Lansing, the Most Reverend Earl Boyea, & I can clearly see the logic of moving such an important feast as Ascension to a Sunday, when more of the faithful are likely to be in attendance to receive the message.
Otherwise, 8 May would have been the feast of Saint Peter of Tarentaise, Bishop, O.Cist. (1102-1174): Saint-link ūnus, Saint-link duo, & Wikipedia-link.
