Commentary: Enjoy it while it lasts, for "The Stars and Stripes Forever" is an untenable boast. Empires rise & empires fall. These United States, which Jefferson called the "Empire of Liberty," shall be no different, our nation's ignominious demise coming sooner rather than later, if one buys into the present pessimism.
