The Rebel Black Dot Song o' Tuesday: SKAfter Party

The Interrupters, "Babylon" from Say It Out Loud (The Last Angry Rude Boy)

Skammentary: My politics are uncertain at the moment, in transition as a result of my awakening, the taking seriously of my Christian faith. I was growing increasingly disillusioned with the Republican Party even before the primary putsch that sold the G.O.P.'s soul to longtime Democrat & Hillary Clinton- & Nancy Pelosi-donor Donald Trump (New York); nominating that despicable man was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. Yet ceasing to be a Republican has not brought me closer to the Democrats, especially as they grow increasingly antagonistic to & intolerant of the Christian faith, such as Senators Kamala Harris (California) & Mazie Hirono (Hawai'i)attempting to subject judicial nominees to a religious test, in direct contravention of Article VI, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution. The Christian democratic American Solidarity Party's ticket won my protest vote in the 2016 presidential election, but in the years since the party has failed to advance a coherent set of principles to define its intriguing but dangerously vague policy proposals; independent conservative Evan McMullin's Stand Up Republic organization doesn't stand for positive policy proposals, only for vociferous opposition to President Trump (with which I sympathize). Some years ago, my brother-in-law suggested I look into the Modern Whig Party, but I've not done so in part because I'm not convinced that a devotion to the American republic's founding values is actually a good idea; I'm not sure I believe in classical liberalism anymore.

In any event, I need to read Patrick Deneen's
Why Liberalism Failed & I find punk rock quasi-anarchism much less inherently obnoxious than I used to, in large part because our political & economic system genuinely appears to be irredeemably corrupt. Obama? Trump? Is there a difference between being Obamboozled or being Trumped? Crony capitalism wins either way.
"Rebel against the kings of Babylon!
Rebel against the kings of Babylon! Yeah,
They got their swords and their spears and their bows and their knives,
We're fighting with our brothers and our sisters for our lives,
Rebel against the kings of Babylon! Yeah!

"God made man and man made kings,
And the kings rule men and they bring the suffering,
When the people rise up, they see it as defiant,
They wanna have control so you can't be self-reliant,
If you play your role and don't get out of line,
If you sell your soul they will buy it for a dime,
And sell it for a dollar, so they can turn a profit,
It's a vicious cycle and the only way to stop it—

"Rebel against the kings of Babylon!
Rebel against the kings of Babylon! Yeah,
They got their swords and their spears and their bows and their knives,
But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives,
Rebel against the kings of Babylon!

"They run the drugs so they make all the money,
That they're busy printin' up like a bee makin' honey,
They hide in the shadows, call themselves 'Enlightened,'
While all the people's shackles are slowly getting tightened,
If we're not locked up we're starving in the streets,
Full bellies getting fat while the weak are getting weaker,
Politicians out to line their pockets,
It's a vicious cycle and the only way to stop it—

"Rebel against the kings of Babylon!…

Oh, yeah yeah yeah,
Songs of the system of control,
Oh, yeah yeah yeah,
Violent and tyrannical,
Oh, yeah yeah yeah,
It's a radical overthrow,
Oh, yeah yeah yeah,
It'll happen again like it's happened before!

"Rebel against the kings of Babylon!…"
