13 March 1969: McDivitt & Schweickart rejoined Scott aboard the Command Module Gumdrop & the Lunar Module Spider was jettisoned (burning up upon reentry in 1981); the Gumdrop splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean & was recovered by crewmen from the U.S.S. Guadalcanal; the successful flight of the theretofore problematic Lunar Module gave the green light to attempt a Moon landing.
