Operation AXIOM: The Space Age—The 40th Anniversary of S.T.S.-41-C, Part II
8-13 April 1984: A first attempt by Nelson to wrangle SolarMax by hand using the M.M.U. jetpack sent the satellite tumbling; ground controllers stabilized SolarMax & Hart grappled it with the Canadarm; van Hoften & Nelson conducted a second E.V.A., repairing SolarMax; all this was highlighted in the IMAX film The Dream Is Alive (1985); after 108 orbits, the Challenger landed at California's Edwards.
Commentary: An experiment in a middeck locker involved thousands of honeybees, who successfully made a honeycomb despite the disorienting effects of microgravity.
