Hyperlink. I hope to God the Iranians really are giving up their drive for nuclear weapons. But, if theirs is a peaceful, above-the-board program, why was it kept secret for eighteen years? Iran is a signatory to multiple treaties that require them to openly declare all attempts to develop peaceful nuclear power technology. Peaceful nuclear power is perfectly legal according to international law, why keep such a program secret? I genuinely hope they are giving up their attempt to get the bomb, because if the Islamic Republic of Iran goes nuclear, our options range from very, very bad to utterly catastrophic.
