The Explorers' Club, № CDXXXIV

Operation AXIOM: The World War
10-13 March 1915: The Battle of Neuve Chapelle—the first deliberately-planned British offensive of the new age of trench warfare, which achieved many of its initial objectives before bogging down due to poor communications & a lack of covering artillery fire, the early rumblings of the Shell Crisis.

British & Imperial casualties: approximately 11,000;
German casualties: approximately 10,000.

Lest we forget.

The Rebel Black Dot Song of the Day
Billy Joel, "We Didn't Start the Fire" via iTunes (T.L.A.M.)

Commentary: I get most of the numerous cultural references in this song, which is why I can defeat you in Trivial Pursuit.

Billy Joel wanted to be a history teacher (because even famous people have dream jobs.)
